Imagine being a bridesmaid in 27 weddings, and all you want is a wedding for yourself. That is what Jane goes through. She barely has a weekend free to herself and never puts herself first. That is also the whole plot of the movie 27 Dresses. The movie is a classic rom-com from the late 2000’s and is overall a great movie.
Jane is a people pleaser who goes out of her way to be a bridesmaid and plan everyone’s weddings. She lives in New York and has been a bridesmaid in a whopping 27 weddings. She has even gone back and forth in New York City to be at two weddings at once.
At the start of the movie, Jane is in a love triangle with her boss and her sister. Then Kevin comes along. Kevin is trying to get a promotion in his job and selflessly and secretly uses Jane for his well-being while both fall in love.
One of my favorite quotes from the movie is, “Love is patient. Love is kind. Love means slowly losing your mind.” This clever twist on the classic 1 Corinthians 13 Bible verse highlights Kevin’s entertaining worldview while hinting towards the wedding industry.
A fun fact about 27 Dresses is that the movie was inspired by a real-life friend of screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.
In my opinion, the best scene in this movie is the Bennie and the Jets bar scene. The characters have their own quirky personalities, and the song is just so iconic and always gets me singing along.
Another great scene is where Kevin has Jane try on all 27 bridesmaid dresses. They have genuine connections, while Kevin teases Jane for her ugly dresses.
The one thing I wished to see was more of a focus on Jane at her wedding rather than Jane’s sister, because it was supposed to be Jane’s special day.
A student in Norte News, Mackenzie Hammer, says, “I love the movie. I would definitely rank it a solid 9.”
I love the movie so much, and I was thrilled to see Jane and Kevin together in the end. I would definitely recommend it, and I give this movie a 9.5/10.
