As the attack starts to wind up their stick to shoot, the crowd goes crazy for the Valencia Vikings girls lacrosse team, and they score another goal. After many practices and a lot of determination to win, the girls lacrosse team placed 3rd in the league for the 24-2025 spring season, taking home 4 wins and 11 losses (Maxpreps).
The team’s best game was against Hart High School on April 19th, 2025, where they won with 13 goals. This game helped them place 3rd in the league, a state rank of 180, and a national rank of 1482 (Maxpreps). All 25 of the girls on the varsity team were able to make this possible, even though they were having trouble within the program; they had coaches leaving and returning, affecting their practice, but they didn’t let this challenge stop them. The girls would go out of their way to make their own practices.
The girls’ lacrosse team was added as a sport only a couple of years ago (Valencia Vikings). Past goalie Gianna Prude says, “Playing on that team was the highlight of high school for me. I’ve made friends that I will always remember, and I can’t wait to see the program grow even bigger.” Gianna graduated last year with a full scholarship from playing as a goalie on Valencia’s team, taking and applying everything her coaches told her on to college.
The girls already started playing their 25-2026 season and are doing amazing so far. Even in just a year, girls’ lacrosse has become more well-known around Santa Clarita. Because of this, the team has more players than ever. This helps the girls during games so that they can sub out and not be tired out halfway through the game, helping them win more games and score higher in the league.
The school hopes to have both the varsity and JV teams both grow bigger together within the next couple of years as lacrosse starts to become more popular in California. To help the school with that, you can attend the girls’ games and cheer them on as they block goals and shoot them.
