About 80% of people survived the horrific 9/11 attacks, But lots of lives were lost on this day. The 9/11 attacks took place in New York city at the twin towers which people also call, the World Trade Center. In the attacks, 2 airplanes crashed into the twin towers. The attacks happened because the twin towers really stood out and helped America’s economy.

9/11 is still a memorial day to remember. According to the Do Something editors, 4 airplanes were hijacked, and two of them headed toward the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center was one of the tallest buildings at that time, and they are also known as the twin towers. Terrorism occurred there because it showed that the US had a great economy. The World Trade Center also worked with other countries. Because of how it symbolizes America, the twin towers were attacked on the morning of September 11.
If there were 4 flights, 2 of them went to the twin towers, then were did the other 2 flights go? Well The Boston University states that one of them went to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The other one crashed in some rural area in Pennsylvania. The Pentagon is the command center of the U.S army. The Pentagon was a target because it plays an important role in the U.S army. The Boston University also says that the last flight, which crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, was actually meant to go to the white house. The Passengers learned about the flight which crashed at the Pentagon and tried to take control of the flight.

The Miller Center says that these hijacked flights were scheduled to head to the west coast. The hijackers got control of the 4 planes mid-flight, then 2 of them turned them around and they went to the twin towers. The other 2 went another direction. One went to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The other had to crash in a rural area after the crew and passengers tried to get control of the plane. These flights had 5 hijackers on board.
History.com states that the terrorists were from the middle-eastern region. They attacked America after a few changes in rules for foreigners to travel to the United States. They were against this so they performed a terrorist attack. The New York City mayor in 2001 explains her experience in the 9/11 attacks, “The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom.” By Rudy Giuliani. This quote means that the 9/11 attacks have made us feel emotional, but these attacks have led to us being stronger.
Therefore, 9/11 is not just the day when America was attacked. It is a memorial day to remember and a day to give respect to those who lost their lives that day.
