Lights! Camera! Action! The winter season is here, and you know what that means! Ebenezer Scrooge’s Big Santa Clarita Christmas show, presented by the Rio Norte Dramahawks, is a wholesome Christmas production based on the classic Christmas Carol, featuring Scrooge and other students playing important roles, all of whom bring festive humor and spirit to the show. This show is playing on December 11th and 12th, for the holiday reminder that Scrooge is back in town! Tickets are 12$ for students and 15$ for adults, so come and get them soon!
The show consists of 26 Riverhawks, 6 tech roles, and 9 members on the creative team. Michael Owston, the Drama teacher here at Rio Norte, calls this show, “A theatrical performance with a fun twist on a Christmas Carol, as well as a humorous, yet interesting story about Ebenezer Scrooge and his adventures.” The brochure mentions, “One of the holiday season’s favorite tales has been transformed into a gut-busting theatrical experience! All the traditional elements of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol are intact, including the iconic ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, blended with music and comedy into a hilarious, twisted colossus. Audiences of all ages will cheer Ebenezer Scrooge’s rediscovery of the Christmas spirit in this riotous Dickens mash-up, all set in ‘wintery’ Santa Clarita.” This gives us a small idea of what the show is about and what to expect when experiencing a magical show.
The cast for the Christmas show stars Shay Okowita as Scrooge, Ghost of Christmas Past as Katie Lindell, and the ghosts of Christmas present and Christmas yet to come, as Vera Catanzarite and June Dahlberg. Many of the cast in the show absolutely love working with each other, and it is always a blast blocking and rehearsing for the real thing.
