Imagine playing with your favorite Pokémon against other players to prove you’re the best. You can do that in Pokémon Champions. In this game, released April 8th, 2026, you can fight against other real players with some of your favorite Pokémon, including Pikachu, Tyranitar, Charizard X, and many other Pokémon. This game is an upgraded remake of Pokémon Stadium with a gap of 26 years, having better graphics and better gameplay between them.
This game differs greatly from the main series of Pokémon games, which spans from Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. In this game, instead of catching Pokémon and defeating the champion, you climb ranks. The ranks are Beginner, Pokeball, Greatball, Ultraball, Masterball, Champion. Each rank has 4 parts. You can also play matches in casual lobbies, which allow you to play with other people, and private lobbies, which give you the chance to play privately with only your friends.
In this game, you don’t find Pokémon in the normal sense. You can either rent a Pokémon or get it permanently, letting you use it forever. Getting these Pokémon permanently on your team costs victory points. You can also use your Pokémon from Pokémon Home. You can get victory points in ranked battles. All of the Pokémon in this game are fully evolved, with the sole exception of Pikachu. In private battles, you can battle your friends.
The main gimmick of this game is that Mega Evolving requires you to have an Omni Ring and the Mega Evolution stone for the Pokémon you want to evolve. There are 59 Mega Evolutions that are currently usable.
Pokémon Champions will be the main place where new tournaments and regionals will take place. It will be the new competitive platform for Pokémon. This is huge, as previously the World Championships and regionals took place in the Pokémon generation it existed in.
Pokémon Champions fixes some minor problems as well. They added an extremely effective indicator and a mostly ineffective indicator to make the game clearer and easier to play. Pokémon Champions also goes more in-depth with their move information, more clear like secondary effects and status conditions. It also lets you know the more specific type of move. For example, it would tell you whether it’s a sound move or not.
The visual interface is also clearer, as now you can see your opponent’s health bar percentage. Earlier, you would have to estimate by looking at how much the health takes in the health bar. To make the gaming experience more enjoyable, the game gives you bots to play against when on a losing streak and when you first start the game.
Some major improvements are with the training system in Pokémon Champions. In previous games, you would have to spend hours to get the right natures and IV for your Pokémon. The training system lets you directly change your Pokémon’s natures and IV at a great capacity and much more easily. The game explains nature clearly and what stats they affect.
Pokémon Champions host Pokémon from every Pokémon generation, which makes it prone to power imbalance. Pokémon Champions released with many balance changes to make Pokémon not too overpowered. Strong moves have also been debuffed.
Pokémon Champions is a new type of game that changes Pokémon competitively forever. Pokémon Champions is a game where you can fight others and prove your worth to be the best. It is a game that lets you hang out with your friends and is a great game for Pokémon lovers.
