James Dashner’s masterpiece called Maze Runner was created on September 19th, 2014. This dystopian, tension-filled and mystery-filled book makes Maze Runner easily one of the best dystopian books ever created. Maze Runner is full of mysteries that are revealed over time which makes the whole reading experience better than most other books.
Maze Runner begins with a boy named Thomas waking up in a box that elevates itself to the center of a giant maze. He has no prior memories about his life except his name. He’s not alone though as there are about 40 other boys who woke up before him who work together to survive. They create a whole system of work to divide duties across everyone basing it off their skills and weaknesses. A few groups they have are track-hoes who farm, cooks who prepare food and runners who explore the maze to find an exit.
There are many good things about Maze Runner like its descriptiveness or its likable characters but the best thing about it is the lack of information and the mystery. Maze Runner keeps you on edge and wondering what is revealed next. In the first book an example of this is the Maze itself where you don’t know much about it or its purpose until the later books. When Thomas enters the maze overnight it emphasizes the mystery of the maze and how lethal it can really be.
The worst part of this book is the story lines of the other characters are mostly sidelined except Thomas. In the books you don’t know a lot about Thomas’s friends’ personalities until you really focus and finish the book. One example is Teresa where she doesn’t have much depth in her character except being a girl.
This book makes you feel confused but in the best way possible. The confusions adds to enjoyment by keeping you on the edge of your seat. Anyone that likes mystery and dystopian will enjoy this book greatly. People that like romance and comedy books won’t like this book as much. You will feel great satisfaction by the time you finish this book because most things are revealed and anyone that likes mystery will love the ending.
In conclusion, Maze Runner- one of the best dystopian books ever made- is worth reading. Despite sometimes being confusing, this dystopian masterpiece is worth your time and money along with having multiple books that you can read. The final rating is no doubt a 9.9 out of 10.
