Have you ever heard or even played a game called Clash Royale? Clash Royale is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA). It is a popular mobile game on the App Store that was released by Supercell on March 2nd 2016. Clash Royale recently reached its peak in player counts because of its various updates and new content creators playing it, but its downfall is closer than many think.
The main goal of the game is to destroy more of the opponent’s princess towers than your own before the timer runs out, or destroy the opponent’s king tower. You can do this with a deck, each deck includes 8 cards. Cards are characters or buildings that each have unique attacks and gimmicks. You must build a good deck and outplay your opponent for you to win the game.
Clash Royale’s new updates from December 2025 onward has it receiving more backlash than ever before. The new update released on December 12th 2025 is making the game much more unfair for anyone who doesn’t wish to spend money on the game. The new updates add a new type of card upgrade called heroes which are very difficult to obtain, but very strong. They cost about 15 dollars per hero. The main problem with this update is that they have evolution which are also a card upgrade, and champions which are a rarity, not a card upgrade, but they do have a special ability similar to heroes.
Another update before this released on November 24th 2025 introduced level 16. Clash Royale introduced level 16 when level 15 was very hard to get to for many players without spending real money on the game. When they added level 16 they removed the hardest part of the requirement for level 15 and made it much easier. It seemed to be an okay update but they removed a crucial progression method to get levels and replaced it for a much worse method. This almost made it very unlikely to get a full deck of level 16 without spending money or playing the game.
Jynxi, a popular streamer thoughts are “If you guys remember when they released heroes and level 16, I said they’re initially going to spike revenue for like one month and then its all going to go down” He immensely popularized Clash Royale with his videos and if he thinks it will die many others will agree which lowers the popularity of the game. He also says if the update gets released it will bring players but eventually kill the game, which so far he is right. It got popular but is now on a downward curve.
Together the updates that are coming like these will eventually kill the game. According to the player charts “December 2025 estimated 45 million with a -1.7 million(3.6%) drop from November.” Clash Royale may be thriving right now but if the updates continue with this level then it will die soon.
