This is an extraordinary tale that will definitely leave you wanting more. Blood of Olympus was published on October 7th, 2014, by Rick Riordan, for middle-grade readers. The book is a must-read because of the epic battles, sidequests, and awesome characters. All the twists and turns in the story add depth, and the book is a dazzling conclusion to the series.
This book series is about 7 demigods questing to stop the villain in the story, the Earth Mother goddess Gaia. When you think that, most people go straight to thinking of a nice lady made out of earth, but that is not the case here. If Gaia woke, she would destroy the entire Earth in rage from the gods making fun of all her children, the titans, giants, and hundred hands. To stop her, though, A goddess named Hera took the two characters Jason Grace and Percy Jackson, had their memories erased, and sent each of them to different camps. One is Greek, and one is Roman. They learned that each camp is special, and they don’t have to fight anymore. All the books are multi-perspective, and this one is with the characters Jason Grace, Piper McLean, Leo Valdez, Nico Di Angelo, and Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano. There are also some side-quests the characters have to go on before they have to fight the Earth Mother in person, which will either let the Earth Mother destroy the Earth or save it for future generations.
The best part was at the end, when the battle happened at Camp Half-Blood. Both camps had to come together to fight Gaia and Rome’s monsters. This scene was really well written, with both of the camps getting along, like two characters, Reyna and Piper. It also took multiple characters’ perspectives to finish the scene. One of the weaker parts of the book was the absence of Percy and Annabeth’s perspectives. They only come in at the middle of the series, Percy in the second, Annabeth in the third, and together for the fourth book, while characters like Leo or Piper have more time as perspectives in the books. The book and the depth of the characters just make the book fun to read, and the literature was spectacular. I had a really fun time reading this book in my free time, and would definitely read it again. My favorite character from this book is Piper McLean, because she is really memorable, along with Hazel Levesque, Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano, and Nico Di Angelo. Imagining the journey the characters went on is one of the best parts of the series. I would recommend this book and series to Percy Jackson readers, because this is the sequel to the series, or to people who like suspense and action. If you don’t really like that, maybe this isn’t for you.
