Ava Pinto- 7th Grader

Grace Avelino

Last year was a time many made use of by picking up a new interest, it was also when eighth-grader, Ava Pinto’s interest in science was piqued through anime and an itch to improve her art. Little did she know that this would lead to her later joining the Science Olympiad, and setting the future goal of working with biotechnology.

Q: How and when did you get interested in science?

A: “I started to get interested in science during the summer of 7th grade when I started watching certain types of anime. I wanted to incorporate sciences such as anatomy into my art, in order to have more accurate paintings.”

Q: What is your favorite part of being in the Science Olympiad Club?

A: “Being able to work without a teacher giving you exactly what to do, and having a lot of independence. It’s a very nice feature. Communication between you and your partner is essential, and it helps build relationships.”

Q: What have you learned from being a part of the Science Olympiad?

A: “That I have an interest in biology, thanks to one branch, Anatomy and Physiology.”

Q: Are you planning to continue pursuing science in the future?

A: “Yes, I’d love to have a job specifically in a biotech company.”

Q: Is there anything a student who might be interested in science should know about the club?

A: “It is completely self driven. It might be a little scary at first to have to be the one to reach out to other students and make certain plans, but everyone is very open and friendly. “
