Benefits of Fishing

Fishing is a fun sport that has many benefits such as lots of vitamin D. It can reduce stress levels, connect you to nature, give you good exercise, and increase your strength. If you catch a fish it’s good for a healthy meal. You can also get outside and hang out with friends or family while fishing.

You can get vitamin D while fishing since you are most likely out in the sun and vitamin D is one of the most important vitamins. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, one of the main building blocks for strong bones. If you do not take in enough vitamin D it can lead to muscle weakness, hair loss, bone pain, and not sleeping well.

Fishing can also help reduce stress levels. It reduces stress because while you fish the repetitive motions that occur while you fish initiate what’s known as the relaxation response. This counterbalances the body’s stress response by slowing breathing rates and relaxing the muscles, reducing cortisol. These calming effects can last up to three weeks, as a result, fishing has even been proven to help veterans suffering from PTSD, by improving sleep and reducing stress.

Fishing can increase strength and you get exercise because you are constantly casting which requires arm and shoulder strength. If your arms and shoulders are weak then you will build the muscles while fishing. Back and core muscles are also important for reeling in fish. If you are fishing on a boat your muscles are always working to keep you stable. Tim, a yard supervisor, likes fishing because it is relaxing and calm. His favorite spot to fish is in Mammoth or June Lake. He also says, “Every student needs to fish, and learn how to tie fishing knots.” These are all some of the many pros to fishing, but fishing is just a fun and relaxing sport. So if you ever have time to go fishing you should just get out.
