Recently, hundreds of Israeli people have died due to suicide bombings, artillery fire, and incoming attackers from their borders. The attacks coming from Palestine, are from a terrorist group named Hamas that has been a large threat to the Middle East. Israel has not made any military action due to a lack of satellite images of where Hamas makes their attacks. Yet Hamas has taken American and Israeli people, hostage, as peace negotiations have been ignored by the group.
Israel and Palestine have had a border clash ever since they became nations. Palestine argues that Israel has land that belongs to them from their religion, which has left them small and defenseless. This is the main reason for the border clash which has been going on for many years, yet was only minor and was just to intimidate the Israeli border patrol. Now, the threat has drastically grown, as Hamas fires on innocent people and has taken many people as hostages. A major problem in Israel is traffic, having gridlocks on all major roads in their daily lives. Now, the streets are empty as the Israeli government warns people to not leave their houses, and leave only for essential needs.
A similar situation has happened in the past year, which is the war in Ukraine and Russia. Since Ukraine split off from Russia, they have wanted their land back and have given the Ukranians military force by bombing, attacking, and using artillery on major cities. Ukraine however, has had a major comeback by using the donated military supplies that we aided them with. With minimal training, they have almost pushed Russian forces out of their country and have started a counter-offensive into Russia.
Israel on the other hand has one of the most advanced militaries in the world, and can easily take out Hamas’s forces with the modern F16 fighter jets that we supplied for them. A very effective defense that they have been using to destroy incoming artillery fire is the Iron Dome. The U.S Iron Dome that we gave to them can track an incoming target and launch a SAM (Surface-to-air missile) and destroy the shell mid-air by an explosion before it hits the ground, protecting the Israeli people. Yet it works 75% of the time, having some artillery shells impact cities.
For extra support, the U.S. brought 2 aircraft carriers to the coast of Gaza in case they are needed, yet for now Israel has made a good defense on the borders and is starting to bomb Hamas’s artillery weapons and has gained support from other countries. Although Hamas’s defenses are rapidly decreasing, people in Gaza need food, water, and many supplies since it’s very scarce from the conflict. Electricity is a major problem in Gaza right now since the power grids have been wiped out by the bombing. The U.S. and many other countries have tried to intervene in the conflict to stop it, as President Joe Biden originally wanted to talk to Issac Herzog, the president of Israel, but canceled due to threats around the area. This war is in its first stages and will continue to rage on in the Middle East.
