Barbering is a career path that many people want to pursue, but few actually make it. This will be a breakdown down how to become a barber, from the supplies to the fades we will cover all!
Starting the first category with supplies, you will be needing a lot of supplies, Luckily we will be showing the high end option and a budget option. Now the most important part to becoming a barber is your clippers. They are what you use to fade, debulk, and make guidelines, but you will want 2 of them! For the budget option you will want to cop the Wahl Senior as your debulker and Slime TPOB. Which will come out to 200$ for both. Now for the High end Clippers you will want the Instinct as your debulker and JRL onyx as your faders. Now for your Trimmers! Trimmers set in bald lines, and can be used for lineups c cups and removing base lines. For your budget option you will want the Slimline 2 as your soft trimmer and JRL fresh Fade as your hitters. For your High end option, you will want Saber as your soft and babyliss FX zone. Luckily for you you are not even halfway done with your spending. So now let’s get into foil shavers. For the budget option you will want the TPOB blackout mini skull, and for the High end option you will want the Onyx Foil Shaver. Now onto hairdryers, for the budget option you will want the Nano Titanium and for the High end option you will want the Forte Pro. Now onto the most expensive part, your chair. For the budget option (which won’t be cheap) a person will want the KO barber chair, and for the high end Takara Belmont. Now time for accessories, a person will want hair products Sea Salt, Leave in Conditioner, Texture Powder, Clay, Pomade, Comb, MB guards, Cape, Shears, Brush, and mirror.
A very important part of becoming a barber is getting your license, but the minimum age is 16 so until a person is that age you will have to work from home and get clients through friends and social media. When you are old enough to apply for barber school it will cost 20k+. After barber school a person can join a barbershop where you will rent a chair and have to bring in your own clients. But to even make it into a barber shop you have to be skilled so let’s go into some good haircuts to learn.
Starting off with the famous low taper. First things first off a person needs to get your trimmers out, not the hitters, and make a line where the hair grows in the back. The hair on the back will have a non thick area and a thicker area by the neck, that’s where you will make your line. From there you will want to clear out all the hair below it and use your foil shaver to remove the stubble, the stubble is the very very short hair that will be leftover from the trimmer. Now you have your bald line. Above the bald line we are going to take our 5 guard and debulk the back of the head. Flicking out by the occipital bone in the back of the head. When it is all even you can make your first guideline. Guidelines are the lines that have to be faded out. Your first line you want to take your fading clippers and have no guard but the lever open. Lever open is when the lever on the side of the clipper is at the bottom, on the other hand when the lever is up it is called closed. So with your lever open you want to move up inch above the bald line. After you have made it even you will want to go into the line half way with your lever half way open. Now that you have your original line faded you can make your next line above it by taking your 1.5 guard open and make a inch and a half line slowly close your lever as you move down the line. Between the 1.5 and the lever open you need to take your 1 guard open and close it as you get closer to the baseline. For the last little line use your .5 guard and play around with the lever till the line is completely gone. Now you can move onto the sideburns or the taper. For the taper you will want to make a rounded line with the trimmer across from the bottom of the eye. After the line is made remove any lines below it and foil shave any stubble. Next you will want to take a lever open and make a half and inch guideline above it keeping the shape rounded. After that go up a full inch with the 1.5 guard. From there use your 1 guard again and close the lever as you go down. Finally play around with the lever with your .5 guard. You’re almost done with the haircut and just have to line up the c cups and the back. To line up the C cups you need to find where the hair grows along the side of the taper. Cut down until you have a c shape connecting to the where the sideburn was. For the back cut down in a line down the back

For the next haircut we have a fade, for the fade your first need to make your bald line. As shown in the picture.
After you make your bald line, take your foil shaver and remove everything below it. Next you have to take your clippers and open the lever all the way. And make a half an inch to a full inch guideline. Depending

on the length of the hair you can go up to a 1.5 guard if not you just
Go up with a .5 guard lever open and close the lever as you move down. Finally clip on your one guard and play around with the top guideline until it’s gone. When done it should look like this.
For our last haircut we have the classic gentleman’s cut which is super simple. Ask the client what guard they would like on the side and once they tell you the length, you will need to take that guard and move up to the peridal ridge and flick out. Do a mini taper on the back and lineup to finish the look. When done it should look like this. Now that you can fade, all that’s left to do is practice!
