If interested in being a professional soccer player, this sequence of events can help someone pursue this career by…. Through following these steps, a person will learn that being an MLS player is significantly difficult due to how many hours of practice needed for experience and the amount of discipline required. However people will find that following these steps may increase chances of Major League Soccer (MLS).
Firstly, joining club teams such as LAFC, United, Legends, and many more will help a person become faster, have better stamina, become stronger, and help achieve a perfect goal. However, tryouts are needed in order to join.
Practice hard to become the star player on that team by determining the amount of goals scored while playing on offense, and preventing most goals on defense. While for speed, racing teammates can determine who is the fastest.
Once that goal has been obtained, try to get into another club and continue to strive and get better. This is also a good stepping stone because club teams can be physically demanding. Programs such as ENCL or the US Soccer Development Academy are meant to help improve a person’s skills and train them to have better discipline, endurance, strength, and stamina, all traits needed to be an MLS player. Meaning, that sacrifices like waking up early at 5:00 am, saying no to vacations or a friend’s birthday party, will have to be given up for practice.
Once at the age, join a high school’s soccer team. Generally, scouts from colleges look to give scholarships to the people whose team has won many championships from a good high school. Meaning it’s best to try to win as many championships and games as one can so more college scouts are willing to watch someone’s game. -The more scouts looking at you, the more opportunities you’ll get to impress them, which can lead to a D1 scholarship. A D1 scholarship
is given when a scout wants a person to be in their college for free. Meaning that a person’s college fees, and sometimes their jersey and other equipment, would already be paid for. Getting D2 scholarship is alright, however it’s harder to
“go pro” with a D2 scholarship. The main difference between a D1 and a D2 scholarship is that D1 is free and D2 is not. The better the college, soccer-wise, the easier it will be to play in the MLS. So getting into schools like Stanford University, University of Pittsburgh, Florida State, or The University of Denver are good schools to apply for. Meaning that someone will have to be the best or second best so the scouts from the MLS are more willing to watch a team play. However, if they don’t. – That’s okay because someone can always try out to be on a pro team.
Lastly, the most important step of all is to practice, practice, practice as much as possible. Staying committed and making soccer your life helps. The percentage of soccer players that make it to major league soccer is only one percent. But by following these steps and trusting that it will be much easier to make it to the MLS and being successful in the game of soccer.
