Halloween is a holiday celebrated worldwide where people dress up in costumes and collect candy from their neighborhoods. Rio Norte loves to participate in Halloween in a special way that allows students to enjoy the festivities! This article will cover Rio Norte’s Halloween traditions, which are held (almost) every year.
Every year, P.E. holds a costume contest for each class, featuring different categories, where students can show off their costumes. This contest includes candy prizes and bragging rights, with teachers also dressing up in funny costumes! The event will take place during your P.E. period on Halloween (October 31st).
ASB is planning a duck hunt to win candy. Rubber ducks will be hidden around the campus for students to find and win candy prizes! This fun activity will also take place on October 31st, Halloween day, so be prepared!
The 8th-grade team, Cimarron, is holding a coloring contest that begins on October 25th and is due by October 29th. Students will receive three different coloring sheets in their advisory classrooms to work on during homeroom. Whoever creates the best-colored sheet will win a full-sized candy bar!
In room C-1, Mr. O (the drama teacher) has a wonderful Halloween display in his room, with decorated pumpkins, colorful lights, and an arch near the door that students walk under to enter his classroom! When you walk into his classroom, you will see a Halloween tapestry on the wall, along with crates and even more decorated pumpkins. Mr. O says, “I just think Halloween is fun. As a set designer for theatre, Halloween allows me to have a creative outlet where I can explore unlimited creative avenues. I love seeing people being creative with decorations and costumes. I think we all like a good scare from time to time, too. One of my favorite things to do on Halloween is handing out candy to kids and seeing their amazing costumes.”
Halloween is an important holiday that brings us together as friends or as a community. Many people consider this day an important part of American culture. Despite not having American roots, Halloween has become a significant celebration in this country!
Have a Happy Halloween, River Hawks!
