Currently, Rio Norte’s ASB has been selling delicious Miers Ice Cream bars. The ASB has been selling these ice cream bars about once a week, and students absolutely love them! A student from Rio Norte describes the ice creams as “creamy and delectable.”
These ice creams are sold for $3.00 each. Some people have suggested that the prices should be lowered. However, because the ASB makes money from these sales, the funds benefit the school. Lowering the price would put the school on a tighter budget. The available flavors include strawberries and cream, mango, coconut, watermelon, and pineapple, with the most popular flavors being strawberries and cream. Lines form quickly in front of the ASB window, which can lead to long waits and chaos, with some kids cutting in line and forming large groups. This has led some of Rio’s staff members to send students to the back of the line for cutting.
ASB started selling these ice creams to raise money for both ASB and various Rio Norte events, such as school dances, PE equipment, class materials, school merchandise, SOAR store supplies, and many other fundraisers—such as the ice cream sales themselves. Retired ASB member Sophia Owens says, “Around 100 crazy kids show up, and we make $200-300 per sale. They sell out very quickly due to the huge line that kids form.” This means that ASB is making around $300-1,200 per month, which is beneficial for Rio Norte financially.
In conclusion, the Mier’s Ice Cream bars sold by Rio Norte’s ASB contribute greatly to both the students’ enjoyment and the school’s fundraising efforts.
