Volleyball is one of the most exciting sports in the world, and joining a volleyball team can be a transformative experience. Not only does it promote physical fitness and coordination, but it also teaches invaluable life skills such as teamwork, communication, and perseverance. If you’re looking for a sport that fosters strong friendships and a sense of community, volleyball is the perfect choice. There’s no “I” in a team, and that’s what makes it so special. The ball comes over the net fast, and each player on our team has a crucial role. On the third touch, the ball needs to go over, but you can’t be in three places at once; that’s just not possible. You rely on five other players, making you the sixth part of a cohesive unit.
My coach emphasizes team bonding outside of volleyball, which helps us build friendships that make working together on the court ten times easier. During games, it’s vital to clear your mind and hype each other up. The more energized we are, the better we play as a team. The saying “there’s no I in team” rings true on the court: if I can’t do my job, then my teammates can’t do theirs. Without one another, we simply can’t succeed.
Volleyball is important to me because I love witnessing my teammates and I improve together. At the gym, we often play against older teams to test our skills in real-game situations. There are two seasons: one for club and one for high school. While I can’t participate in the high school season yet since I’m in 8th grade, I plan to attend all their games this year. Supporting them feels right, and I have no doubt they would do the same for me.
During practice, we keep track of our points, and the player with the most points each day gets candy. If you win for the month, the coach treats you to your favorite snack. This friendly competition motivates us to play better, but ultimately, it’s about wanting to excel with every ball we touch.
This year has been pivotal for my volleyball journey. When my dad lost his job, my mom reached out to my old coach, Johnny. Without hesitation, he praised my dedication and got me on the team. Without that friendship and my hard work at the gym, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
So, if you’re considering joining a volleyball team, take the leap!
You’ll not only improve your skills but also create lasting friendships and memories.
Live life to the fullest because tomorrow isn’t promised.
