The Heart Behind the Barn
So how did the Gentle Barn come to be? Founder Ellie Laks started her journey with a dog training, walking, boarding, and grooming business, specializing in rehabilitating severely abused and mistreated dogs. Before launching the Gentle Barn, Ellie rescued and worked with approximately 500 dogs and cats.
Ellie and her husband, Jay, also dedicate their time to helping at-risk inner-city and special needs children who share stories similar to those of the animals at the Gentle Barn. Together, they lead a fulfilling life with their three children, rescuing and rehabilitating hundreds of animals each year. Their mission? To witness the miracles that happen when animals and children connect.
