Zain Javadd Malik, or his preferred name being Zayn, is a 31 year old British singer and songwriter who was born on January 12, 1993 in Bradford. His career first started off on the British TV show called X-Factor in 2010 when he was 17. His name might sound familiar because he was a part of One Direction when they were a band, but he formally left on March 25, 2015 to start his solo career. Zayn has one daughter who is 4, and her name is Khai.
During One Direction, Zayn says in future interviews after he left that he never really wanted to be in the band. While he was in the band, they wrote 4 albums together, the rest of the boys writing one more album before they all decided to split for an ‘18 month hiatus.’ In the Zach Sang Show interview that came out on May 8, 2024, Zayn said he wished he enjoyed his time with the band more, and he really did enjoy it, but in the past he described himself as an ‘angsty teen.’
Zayn has 3 albums, his fourth one coming out on May 17, 2024. The new album is called The Room Under the Stairs, the title taking inspiration from his old room which was under the stairs. There, he explained in an interview, he got some of his ideas and dreams for his future in that room. Some of the songs on his album came from that room when he wrote them as a child. His other albums are called, Mind of Mine, Icarus Falls, and Nobody is Listening. He has done collaboration songs with other famous artists like Taylor Swift, where they both sang, ‘I Don’t Wanna Live Forever’ and he also sang with Nicki Minaj, their song called, ‘No Candle, No Light.’ At the moment, Zayn has two singles out from his new album, one called ‘What I Am’ the other called, ‘Alienated.’
His new album is much different than his other’s, compared to his other albums, this one being more calm and relaxed. He has 15 songs on his album, but on May 20, 2024, he added a second addition to his album, called the ‘Z Sides’, with 5 additional songs, 3 new one’s and two demo versions, ‘demo’ meaning a song’s first version. With his new album, Zayn performed live for the first time in over 8 years in London. He was also seen on the Kelly Clarkson Show and The Late Late Show with Jimmy Fallon. Hayden Morales, an 8th grader here at Rio Norte said she listened to the album and thought it was really good. “I think my favorite song is Birds on a Cloud.” She said, and she also recommends listening to the new album as well.
