Smera Arun

Here in Santa Clarita, there are many great activities and hobbies to take part
in, but one of the most interesting may be our archery range!

Practice Times/Official Team times
The archery range is always open to the public, but the official practice for the team during this time of the year is from 3::00 to 5:00. During warmer days, practice is from 4:00 to 5:00 to avoid the heat. The team meets on Mondays,
Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. You can also go to the range on other days of the week, although the coach won’t be there.

Conditions

The range is outdoors and doesn’t have an indoor facility for now. There may be one built soon, but it is undecided. The area itself is led to by a dirt road, so the range is quite dusty on windy days, which may result in canceled practices.
Since it is outdoors, the weather changes pretty frequently, whether it’s too hot or too cold, so make sure to keep this in mind if you plan on joining the team.

Tournaments
There have been quite a few archery tournaments in the past, and there are a few coming up as well. There are two that are coming up in the very near future, both of which are in Tulare, the JOAD indoor championship, and the state indoor championship. JOAD, unlike the state championship, lasts 1 day and takes place on January 7, 2022. The other tournament is the state indoor championship which takes place on January 8 and 9 of 2022 in Tulare. AS you
can see, this tournament lasts 2 days, so the winners will only be awarded on the second day.

Coach Rene Paguia
Coach Rene is the coach of the Santa Clarita Valley archery team so we asked him a few questions to learn more about the team and himself. When asked how long he had been a coach, he said, “I’ve been a coach for about 28
years.” We went on to ask how long SCV archery had been a team. “The actual team has been here for about 2 years, but I’ve been a coach here since the beginning.” Finally, we asked what the best part about being a coach was.“Probably seeing the joy on everyone’s faces when they hit a yellow. It’s priceless, there’s nothing better.”
