On February 6th, 2021, the Chiefs and the Buccaneers headed face to face in the Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium in Florida. The Chiefs and the Buccaneers were in the Super Bowl because they went through each round of football teams and won to get to the Super Bowl. The game was very intense, and people wondered if Tom Brady would get his 7th ring, or if the Chiefs would take home the win this year.

The Super Bowl happened on February 6th, 2021 and the two teams playing were the Chiefs and the Buccaneers. The score ended up to be 9-31, and the Buccaneers won. Even though there is covid-19 still spreading, there were lots of fans in the stands that night. Tom Brady also finally got his 7th ring that night, with his new team the Buccaneers. He used to be with the Patriots, but recently switched to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “He wants those guys to experience what he’s experienced six times. I think personally, too, he’s making a statement. You know?” head coach Bruce Arians told CBS News. He was talking about how Brady really wanted his teammates to know how it feels to win, after he won 6 rings before.

The Chiefs just felt like that wasn’t their game. Also, Mahomes had a toe injury that he needed surgery for, but he said how it didn’t affect him in the previous game. Lots of fans were saying how the Chiefs were just not on their A game that day. Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Chiefs stated that, “They beat us pretty good, the worst I think I’ve been beaten in a long time.” That game was very tough for the Chiefs, as they got no touchdowns, and only three field goals. Mahomes also told ESPN News how it was a hard loss, but the team is only going to keep getting better, and come back stronger next Super Bowl.

Also, even after this loss, the Super Bowl ratings this year were very low. According to CNN, the ratings of people watching were only 96.4 million viewers. Last year, they had 102 million viewers, and have never really had the ratings as low as this year. CNN also said how the game wasn’t as competitive this year, so that’s also why there was less ratings. Lots of people were saying the game was just off, and even the ads this year.

The halftime show this year was by the singer The Weekend. The Weekend started the show off by standing at the top of the stadium and had all of his backup dancers all lined up down the stage. He sang all of his hit songs such as “Blinding Lights,” “Save your Tears,” “The Hills,” “Starboy,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” “I Feel it Coming,” “Earned It,” “Call out my Name,” and “House of Balloons/Glass Table Girls,”. He sang parts of each song and he tried to put the concept from some of his music videos into the show. People saw how his backup dancers had red on with bandages around their faces, which was supposed to be part of the concept from his music video, “Save your Tears.”

The Super Bowl had some rating problems this year, but hopefully next year everything can go back to normal after covid-19. “You need great coaches and you need great players. That’s the way this sport works. It’s not an individual sport, it’s a team sport.” Brady told CBS. Football really is a team sport, and Tampa Bay just was more together as a team that night. The Chiefs do hope to come back next Super Bowl and take home another ring.
